Medical Practitioners
This section provides information and services for registered medical practitioners. It includes pathways for registration, renewal, certification, and other regulatory services. Many services are available online through the MySLMC Portal. Other services, which require submission of prescribed application forms and supporting documents to the SLMC at the moment, will be added to MySLMC Portal in due course.
Registration Services
Provisional Registration
If you have successfully completed MBBS or an equivalent degree from a local university or have successfully completed ERPM, you are eligible to Apply for provisional registration. Provisional registration is required before beginning the compulsory internship programme leading to full registration.
Registration as Medical Practitioner
This registration is available to Sri Lankan citizens who have successfully completed an approved MBBS or equivalent medical degree and the mandatory internship training. Registration under Section 29 of the Medical Ordinance permits independent practice of medicine and surgery in Sri Lanka.
Specialist Registration
Medical practitioners who are registered under Section 29 of the Medical Ordinance and hold a recognised specialist qualification specified under Section 39A of the Medical Ordinance may apply for Specialist Registration under Section 39B. Registration as a specialist with the Sri Lanka Medical Council is mandatory for practising as a specialist in Sri Lanka. Applications are assessed in accordance with the eligibility criteria and procedures prescribed by the Council
Renewal & Restoration
Renewal of Registration
Medical practitioners are required to renew their registration at the intervals prescribed by the Sri Lanka Medical Council to maintain their legal authority to practise medicine and surgery in Sri Lanka. Registration renewal can be completed conveniently online through the MySLMC Portal, where practitioners can update their details, submit the required information, and make the applicable payment.
Restoration of Registration
Medical practitioners whose registration has lapsed due to failure to renew it within the prescribed period may apply for restoration of registration. Restoration is subject to the requirements and procedures prescribed by the Sri Lanka Medical Council.
Certificates & Documents
Certificate of Good Standing
Apply for an official Certificate of Good Standing confirming your current registration status and professional standing with the Sri Lanka Medical Council. The certificate is commonly required for overseas employment, professional registration with foreign regulatory authorities, postgraduate training, higher education, or immigration purposes. It is issued within 1-2 working days
Certified Extract of Registration
Apply for an official Certified Extract of Registration confirming the details recorded in the Register of Medical Practitioners. This document may be issued as official proof of registration or where the original Permanent Registration Certificate has been lost, damaged, or destroyed.
Additional Qualification Registration
Register recognised postgraduate degrees, fellowships, diplomas, or other approved academic qualifications with the Sri Lanka Medical Council to keep your professional registration record accurate and up to date.
Certified Internship Certificate
Request an official Certified Internship Certificate confirming the successful completion of your compulsory internship training. This certificate may be required for professional registration, employment, postgraduate training, or other official purposes.
Other Services
Change of Information
Keep your registration record accurate and up to date by notifying the Sri Lanka Medical Council of any changes to your personal or professional information. You may apply to update your name, registered residential address, contact details, or other particulars recorded in the Register of Medical Practitioners.
SLMC ID Card
Apply for a replacement SLMC Identity Card if your existing card has been lost, damaged, or destroyed. You may also request an updated identity card following approved changes to your personal or professional information recorded with the Sri Lanka Medical Council.
Letter of Request
Request an official letter from the Sri Lanka Medical Council containing your registration details or other information required for professional, academic, administrative, legal, or other official purposes. Requests are considered in accordance with the information required and the Council's applicable procedures.

Complete this application to request official verification of your Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) registration. Ensure all required information and supporting documents are provided.
